MONTREAL, Jan. 16, 2014 /CNW Telbec/ - The Autorité des marchés financiers (the "AMF") announced today the education projects which will receive support from the Education and Good Governance Fund (EGGF). The Assessment Committee chose six projects, submitted before the September 30, 2013 deadline, which will receive a total of $387,780.
"The AMF is proud to support financial education projects initiated by organizations devoted to the financial well-being of the clientele they serve. The Fund's Assessment Committee acknowledges the relevance and innovation of projects which will no doubt help increase consumer vigilance, both through the variety of distribution channels and the diversity of targeted groups. These financial education projects contribute to the efforts of the AMF and several other partners," explained AMF President and Chief Executive Officer Louis Morisset.
Since its inception in 2004, the EGGF has supported 156 projects with more than $25 million in financing for projects focussing on investor protection and education, the promotion of good governance and the advancement of knowledge.
The EGGF accepts projects submitted by September 30 and March 30 of each year in order to encourage innovative projects that have a measurable impact on the Fund's target clients and sustain the development, vitality and expansion of Québec's financial sector.
The EGGF also administers an excellence program which offers scholarships worth $10,000 at the doctoral level and $5,000 at the Master's level, accompanied by a six-week paid internship at the AMF.
Assessment Committee appointment
The EGGF is proud to welcome a new member to the Assessment Committee, Patricia Hanigan. Ms. Hanigan is Executive Director of the Collège de Rosemont and Chair of the Board of Directors of the Fédération des cégeps. Her vast expertise in the field of education will be an important asset in assessing projects and scholarship applications.
