Amputee's story inspires youngsters at War Amps London Seminar today
LONDON, ON, May 26, 2012 /CNW/ - Ron Lapos, 33, of Brampton, remembers well the challenges of growing up as an amputee. Today at 1 p.m. in room Bristol A&B of London's Four Points by Sheraton Hotel (1150 Wellington Rd South), he will tell child amputees attending The War Amps 2012 Ontario Child Amputee (CHAMP) Seminar his inspiring story.
Born missing his left hand, Ron enrolled in CHAMP, received financial support for artificial limbs and attended the Ontario CHAMP seminars. As a teen, he "gave back" by becoming a Junior Counsellor to the younger Champs at seminars. He was also involved in the Association's Operation Legacy and the PLAYSAFE Program. Today he will talk with humour and candour about the challenges of growing up with an amputation, as well as how The War Amps philosophy of "amputees helping amputees" helped him. After studying Mechanical Engineering at the University of Western Ontario, Ron now works as a Project Manager with an automotive company. He lives in Brampton with his wife and son.
