AMVIC celebrates Canada Day with launch of translated tip cards
EDMONTON, June 30, 2016 /CNW/ - This Canada Day the Alberta Motor Vehicle Industry Council wants you to know it is looking out for you. The automotive regulator is removing some language barriers to help spread consumer protection awareness.
"We live in a great country where we welcome people from all around the world," John Bachinski, executive director of AMVIC said. "We embrace that diversity and want to ensure that all Albertans are aware of their rights as automotive consumers."
Which is why AMVIC created consumer tip cards in a variety of languages.
"It's our job to ensure all automotive consumers are treated fairly whether they have lived here their whole life or just moved here," Bachinski said.
The automotive regulator is celebrating the launch of the translated tip cards with NorQuest College's Language Instruction for Newcomers to Canada students at the college's June 30 Canada Day event.
"We want to help all consumers have access to the knowledge they need to make smart and informed automotive purchases," Bachinski said.
In addition to English, the tip cards are available in Amharic, Arabic and Somali and can now be found at amvic.org. The three additional languages were selected based on recommendations from several organizations that serve newcomers.
