Charles-Antoine Crête and Frédérick Lavoie in war zones
CANNES, France, Oct. 8, 2013 /CNW Telbec/ - TV5 announces today details of À Table avec l'ennemi, the original production derived from the Dining with the Enemy Norwegian format. Sophie Ferron, producer and president of Media Ranch, is at the helm of this new TV series which explores wars and conflicts from a completely new perspective.
« À table avec l'ennemi ».
Journalist and author Frédérick Lavoie will team up with world-renowned chef Charles-Antoine Crête of the Toqué! restaurant. Our hosts will cover war zones where they will bring opponents together to share a meal at the very same table. Some would describe these encounters as genuine peace missions.
Shooting will start in January 2014.
This series of six 60-minute episodes-which will cover six conflict areas around the world-will be broadcast on TV5 in the autumn of 2014. Among the six destinations on the agenda, let's mention Mexico, where the state of Chiapas and the Mexican federal government are still struggling, Rwanda and Afghanistan.
With our hosts, Frédérick and Charles-Antoine, we will witness the meeting between two opposing parties who will present their conflicting views and their vision of the strife that tears them apart.
À table avec l'ennemi will reveal to the viewers unique and mostly unknown point of views gathered in war zones. Most people are not aware that these regions abound in cultural and culinary richness of their own. Areas inhabited by people for whom the ever-present threat is a day-to-day reality.
"We forget that, in war zones or risk areas, life goes on. People try to live a normal life and their main concerns are much like ours. Through a journey that will be dangerous at times and full of unforeseen events, we hope the dinner table will serve as a meeting place, a place for dialogue and hope between two cultures", says TV5 Programming Director Pierre Gang.
"It's amazing how a meal, prepared following local traditions and customs, can bring together opponents who've been confronting each other for decades. In a sense, by giving peace a chance, we're making one of John Lennon's wishes come true", adds Sophie Ferron.
"Shooting a broadcast in a foreign country is something, shooting a broadcast in a war zone is something else. Our hosts are pretty brave to accept this mandate", concluded Ms. Ferron.
