MONTREAL, May 31, 2013 /CNW Telbec/ - May 30 marked the launch of the album DANS LA RUE INSPIRE at Montreal-based Les Studios de Rouen. The compilation features the work of 13 street kids from the Chez Pops Day Centre along with prominent Quebec recording artists Ariane Moffatt, Pascale Picard Band, The Sainte Catherines, Grimskunk, Anonymous, Chloé Lacasse, Balthazar Boudreau, General Kaput and Dramatik. The project provided participants with a healthy creative outlet and an opportunity to work on raising their self-esteem.
Dans la rue is incredibly fortunate to have its own music program and recording studio at the Chez Pops Day Centre. This makes it possible to tap into youths' interest in music and make the most of the benefits associated with music recording workshops. Music is an excellent way of reaching out and making connections. The music therapist arranges individual and group activities to stimulate their creativity and engage in a personalized approach based on their own motivations and strengths.
"When Kent Nagano and the musicians of the Orchestre symphonique de Montréal came to the Day Centre in 2010, we realized that the interaction between professional musicians and our youths was tremendously beneficial. That's when we decided to push the concept a little further and create a professional musical compilation, with the backing of some very talented people!" said Lauren Hudgins, the music therapist in charge of Dans la rue's music program.
With financial support from the Simple Plan Foundation, the Mathieu Lafond Foundation and the Canada Council for the Arts, Dans la rue succeeded in getting the DANS LA RUE INSPIRE project off the ground. The organization turned to various Quebec recording companies to find artists willing to get involved in the collaboration. The experience proved to be a very rewarding one for everybody, not only musically but on a human scale as well. DANS LA RUE INSPIRE is an eclectic compilation that sheds light on the individual insights of each young participant. Overall consistency from one track to the next was ensured by producers Jean-Phi Goncalves and Jean-François Lemieux.
