And the hits keep coming: shomi™ teams up with CBS Studios International for the hottest TV titles and some remastered classics
TORONTO, Nov. 13, 2014 /CNW/ - What do you get when you combine the world's most-watched TV drama, a comedy based on a telenovela about a pregnant virgin, and a little 'beam me up Scotty' action? Answer: shomi™. Canada's premier subscription video-on-demand (SVOD) service is at it again, announcing another content deal today for premium content with CBS Studios International.
Not only is shomi now the exclusive Canadian SVOD home to the world's most watched TV drama, NCIS, plus its spinoffs NCIS: Los Angeles & NCIS: New Orleans, but it is also the only place in Canada to check out the critically-acclaimed series Jane The Virgin, and the upcoming series The Messengers - both brand new titles from The CW. Jane The Virgin was touted as the "#1 must-see" new show of the season by TV Guide and recently given a full season order by The CW. It stars breakout actress Gina Rodriguez as Jane Villanueva, a driven, responsible, young woman who discovers she was accidentally artificially inseminated.
Today's deal also makes shomi the exclusive SVOD home to new drama Madam Secretary, as well as Reckless, Hawaii Five-O, Elementary, Star Crossed and the top-rated series Extant and Under the Dome. For the first time in Canada, all seasons of Californication will be available on one SVOD service. This deal also includes the remastered classic sci-fi hits Star Trek: The Next Generation and Twilight Zone. And for those dreaming about hot, young Captain Kirk, shomi will even have Star Trek: The Original Series.
Doug Smith, Vice President and General Sales Manager, Canada, CBS Studios International commented, "It's exciting for CBS programming to be part of shomi's launch and to provide their Canadian subscribers with CBS's hit current series and classic programming. We look forward to supporting our friends at shomi as they begin this new venture."
"Great TV is now in session as shomi builds on bigger and better with this deal with CBS," said Marni Shulman, Head of Content & Programming, shomi. "From the good ol' faithfuls you want to watch over and over again to today's hottest titles, we give entertainment lovers from coast-to-coast more great content every day."
A series of exclusive content announcements from shomi have already been announced, with premium content continually added to the service on an ongoing basis.
shomi is available now in beta first to Rogers and Shaw Internet or cable customers, while conversations continue with other BDUs. With an all-star lineup of exclusive past-seasons of many of the hottest shows on television as well as movie favourites, Canadians are able to enjoy shomi online and on select tablets, mobile devices, and set top boxes (on Rogers Channel 300 or through the Shaw On Demand menu). shomi will also be coming soon to Xbox 360 and Chromecast.
