TORONTO, Oct. 3, 2014 /CNW/ - This week a new flavour of water kefir debuted: LEMON at the Ontario Ministry of Agriculture's export trade show, Street Smart. Participants at Street Smart felt that the lemon flavour is very welcome addition to the line; it was the most popular flavour at the trade show because of its familiar and refreshing taste.
Water kefir is a pre-historic method of using friendly yeasts and bacteria to turn sugar water into
a low-calorie, high enzyme, fresh and raw drink, with a taste something like a dry champagne;
although water kefir is naturally non-alcoholic. Ann Payne's Caveman Foods Ltd has perfected a method of preserving the effervescence of this historic "soda pop". Lemon will be added to the existing flavour selection of: Vanilla and Original (or rose flavour), and the seasonal flavours: Saffron, Black Pepper and Tarragon
"Although we sell water kefir primarily as a gourmet product, water kefir is healthy for the digestive tract, and so we always pay attention to the health of what we add to our water kefirs. Lemons have long been known to detoxify the liver, and dissolve gallstones and kidney stones. Lemons as we eat them are acidic; however in the body, lemons are alkaline-forming. In company with other citrus fruits, lemons are high in Vitamin C, and contain liminoids, which have been shown to fight some cancers. We are happy to bring the benefits of lemons to the public in a complex and satisfying beverage, that pairs well with food."
