Anne-Marie Mediwake of CTV's Your Morning to host CJF Awards
TORONTO, March 19, 2019 /CNW/ - Acclaimed broadcaster Anne-Marie Mediwake, co-host of CTV's Your Morning, will host the coming CJF Awards, a celebration of journalistic excellence taking place in Toronto on June 13 at the Fairmont Royal York.
Presented by The Canadian Journalism Foundation (CJF), the annual gala is a gathering of some 600 journalists, media executives and business leaders to honour those who have made significant contributions to journalism—both locally and on the international stage—and to recognize emerging talent.
"The CJF Awards are always a night of reflection and inspiration," says Mediwake. "In an era where fiction is tweeted as fact, and erosion of trust exists on many fronts, I am honoured to be part of the celebration highlighting the work of fellow journalists to uncover truth, both here and around the world."
In 2016, Mediwake brought almost two decades of news and current affairs experience to CTV where she began her network career as the host of the Gemini Award-winning investigative program 21C and as a reporter for CTV National News. The six-time Canadian Screen Award (CSA) nominee has also co-anchored CBC Toronto News and Global News Toronto.
During her expansive career, the Alberta-raised Mediwake provided award-winning coverage of some of Canada's and the world's biggest news stories, including the 2014 Parliament Building shooting and the 2013 Boston Marathon bombing. She has also co-anchored municipal, provincial and federal elections, reported from London during the Royal Wedding and Queen's Jubilee, and hosted a documentary from her native Sri Lanka on the 2004 South Asian Tsunami.
Awards presented at the gala include, as previously announced, the CJF Tribute to Maria Ressa, the executive editor and CEO of the Philippine news site Rappler. Other awards include the CJF Jackman Awards for Excellence in Journalism, the CJF-Facebook Journalism Project News Literacy Award, the CJF Lifetime Achievement Award, the CJF-CBC Indigenous Journalism Fellowships, The Landsberg Award, the Tom Hanson Photojournalism Award, the Atkinson Fellowship in Public Policy, the William Southam Journalism Fellowships and the Martin Wise Goodman Canadian Nieman Fellowship at Harvard University.
The CJF thanks the generous support of presenting sponsor Deegan Public Strategies and sponsors Labatt Breweries of Canada, Accenture, CTV News, Rogers, Facebook Journalism Project and Google News Initiative. Thanks also to in-kind supporters The Canadian Press and CISION.
