TORONTO, May 8, 2017 /CNW/ - United Van Lines (Canada) Ltd.'s President, Anne Martin, announces her retirement. Effective October 31, 2017, Anne will retire from her position but will remain with the company until the end of the year to ensure a smooth transition for the next President and the van line.
Under her leadership, United Van Lines became a 100% Canadian-owned business and was named one of Canada's Best Managed Companies with a Platinum designation. MoverOne International was created to add a global service provider to the company list of services, and Mayflower was launched in Canada.
"By consistently upgrading our services, processes, technology and ensuring the team consists of the right employees, Anne can retire knowing she's left United Van Lines in a strong position, ready to celebrate our 65th anniversary in 2018. The Board thanks her for her leadership, commitment to the company, forward-thinking and the passion she brings daily to the organization," says Rod Speers, Chairman of the Board.
Anne has a keen interest in the relocation industry as a whole, having served as President and Chairman of the Board for the Canadian Employee Relocation Council. She was the first supplier of the Association named to this position.
Being a woman in the moving industry dominated by men was not an easy task to accomplish. Anne was named one of the Top 100 Most Powerful Women in Canada, leading her to mentor six female professionals in other organizations.
United Van Lines has been a large part of Anne's life since she was young. Her father, Charles (Chuck) Martin, the Executive Vice-President, was instrumental in running the company from 1962 to 1998. Growing up with generations of families in the industry, Anne watched and learned the business in various positions including training, marketing and quality assurance, eventually becoming the President for 18 of her 35 years at United Van Lines. She applied for the President's job twice before she got it. Her determination has served the van line well over her 18 years. The Martins have overseen the operations of United Van Lines for 55 years which is an amazing family history in a company founded on the concept of family businesses across Canada.
"I have a tremendous respect for everyone at the van line and Member Family and will greatly miss the culture of our network. My special thanks to the Board of Directors for their support, dedication and contribution to the overall success of the van line. I am confident that United Van Lines will continue to grow as a company in a positive direction. Our Members and staff are the heart of our organization and that continues forward," Anne Martin comments.
A search for the next President is underway. The Executive Committee of the Board has started the due diligence process of finding a next President. The Executive Committee of the Board has hired Marc Magraken, Executive Search Consultant, to manage the search process on their behalf.
