Announcing the 2018 EU-Canada Young Journalist Fellows

OTTAWA, June 29, 2018 /CNW/ - The Delegation of the European Union to Canada and the Canadian Association of Journalists (CAJ) are pleased to announce the three winners of the 2018 EU-Canada Young Journalist Fellowship.

The laureates will participate in a week-long study tour of European Union institutions in Brussels in October 2018. Prior to the study tour, the winners will be recognized at an awards ceremony hosted by the Honourable Geoff Regan, Speaker of the House of Commons, in the fall in Ottawa.

The winners are:

• Kyle Greenham (Twillingate, Newfoundland & Labrador), who wrote about the fishery industry in the context of the EU-Canada Comprehensive Economic and Trade Agreement (CETA). He demonstrated a great ability to link a very local issue to CETA, an international agreement.
• Patrice Senécal (Montreal, Quebec), who wrote about democracy in Europe. He proved an incredible potential and maturity in his work, reflected in his entire file. The achievements of the trip will serve him well in the long-run.
• Andrew Seal (Vancouver, B.C.), who wrote a moving piece about migrants in Europe. He was awarded the prize thanks to the depth of his research, the initiative displayed in trying to get information directly from the source, and a commendable ability to tell a story with so much humanity and accuracy.

The European Union Delegation is pleased to partner with the CAJ on this initiative which aims to give young Canadian journalists an opportunity to advance their career goals and create life-long bonds with Europeans.

We would like to thank all those who expressed an interest and entered the contest. We are looking forward to the next edition of the EU-Canada Young Journalist Fellowship to be launched in the spring of 2019.
