Announcing the recipients of the 2016 EU-Canada Young Journalist Fellowship

OTTAWA, Sept. 9, 2016 /CNW/ - The European Union Delegation to Canada and the Canadian Association of Journalists (CAJ) are pleased to announce the three winners of the 2016 EU-Canada Young Journalist Fellowship who will participate in a week-long study tour of European Union institutions in Brussels and Strasbourg in October.

Prior to the study tour, the winners will be recognized at an awards ceremony jointly organized with the Honourable Geoff Regan, Speaker of the House of Commons, in early October in Ottawa.

The winners include:

Geneviève Zingg, programme assistant to the Deputy Coordinator of the International Court and recent University of Toronto graduate for her story: European Parliament passes controversial counterterrorism bill: Passenger Name Record (PNR)

Julien Beaulieu, political science master's student at Université du Québec a Montréal (UQAM) for his story: Un Non Wallon a l'Accord de libre-échange Canado-Européen

Philippe-Vincent Foisy, public administration University of Ottawa student and journalist with COGECO Media, for his radio news report: Le Canada et l'Union européenne franchissent un pas de plus en vue de la ratification de l'accord de libre échange

The European Union Delegation is delighted to partner with the CAJ on this initiative aimed at giving young Canadian journalists an opportunity to advance their career goals and create life-long bonds with Europeans.

We would like to thank all those who expressed an interest and entered the contest and we are looking forward to the next edition of the EU-Canada Young Journalist Fellowship to be launched in the spring of 2017.
