CORNWALL, ON, Oct. 19, 2016 /CNW/ - On October 12th, 2016, the Cornwall Regional Task Force (CRTF) attended a vacant waterfront property in South Glengarry Ontario as a result of suspicious activity.
The investigation revealed that an unidentified boat had unloaded several bags on the shoreline and one individual was found in the vicinity.
After a short foot pursuit, Charles Alexandre Le Chevalier (age 21) currently from Les Cèdres, Quebec was arrested. The contents of the bags yielded a total of 1305.10 kilograms of unstamped fine cut tobacco. Additionally, investigators seized a vehicle which was used in the commission of the offence and a small quantity of marihuana.
Le Chevalier was released on a Promise to Appear compelling him to attend the Ontario Court of Justice in Cornwall Ontario on November 24th at 9:00am to answer to the charges of Possession of Unstamped Tobacco under the provisions of the Excise Act, 2001, Possession of Marihuana under the Controlled Drugs and Substances Act as well as Resisting Arrest under the Criminal Code. Provincial charges under the Tobacco Tax Act are currently pending with the Ontario Ministry of Finance.
