APEX PUBLIC RELATIONS SCHOLARSHIP SUPPORTS NEW BACHELOR'S DEGREE PROGRAM AT
HUMBER COLLEGE
TORONTO, Nov. 8 /CNW/ - The Communications + Public Relations Foundation in co-operation with APEX Public Relations, Toronto, announces the establishment of the APEX Scholarship in Public Relations. The Scholarship will be awarded to a student attending the new four-year Bachelor of Public Relations (BPR) program to be launched at the Humber College Institute of Technology & Advanced Learning in September 2011.
The Scholarship has been established to support a student who is pursuing post secondary public relations education and needs financial support. Applicants will be required to demonstrate financial need as well as academic achievement and community involvement. The Scholarship will offer $3,000 per year over a four-year period, contingent upon academic achievement. A new competition will be held every four years.
"There are a number of talented students who have the potential to be leaders in our industry, but might not have the financial resources to obtain the education they need. We hope this scholarship will help them in their pursuit of undergraduate studies and we look forward to supporting their progress," said Pat McNamara, CEO, APEX Public Relations.
Humber College will adjudicate submissions and recommend up to three potential candidates to the Communications + Public Relations Foundation which will establish a jury to make the selection of the Scholarship winner. During the intervening years, Humber College will determine the student's eligibility to continue to receive the Scholarship.
"Humber is very appreciative of this four-year scholarship. It will enable a deserving, first-year student, who might otherwise be unable to pursue degree education in Public Relations, to study at Humber, starting Fall 2011," according to Nancy Rodrigues, APR, Associate Dean, Humber School of Media Studies & Information Technology.
The Communication + Public Relations Foundation promotes the advancement of communications and public relations as vital functions in society, is dedicated to the public interest, and is committed to increasing public knowledge and awareness of the role of communications and public relations in daily life. The Foundation accepts individual and corporate contributions towards research and educational initiatives nationwide.
"We are delighted to be working with both APEX Public Relations and Humber College in establishing and managing this Scholarship and even more important that it will support the launch of the first degree program in public relations in the GTA," said Dr. Gordon McIvor, chair of the Foundation.
