HISTORICAL RUM DISTILLER ALLOCATES LIMITED NUMBER OF VERY RARE 50 YEAR OLD RUM TO CANADIAN MARKET
TORONTO, June 25, 2012 /CNW/ - Appleton Estate, the historical and innovative Jamaican rum distiller that has produced the world's finest rums since 1749, today announced the Canadian release of its very rare limited edition Appleton Estate 50 Year Old Jamaica Rum - Jamaica Independence Reserve. Comprised of a number of exceptional rums, aged for a minimum of 50 years in hand selected, oak barrels, the Appleton Estate 50 Year Old Jamaica Rum - Jamaica Independence Reserve is believed to be the oldest rum available for sale in the world. Only 800 bottles of this very rare rum have been created and only a limited number will be available for purchase in the Canadian market, retailing at approximately $5,000 US per 750ml bottle, while quantities last.
In 1962, Appleton Estate set down several barrels of rum to age with the edict that they would be used to create a very special blend that would be bottled to celebrate the 50th anniversary of Jamaica's independence. The rums were very carefully managed over the next 50 years, first by master blender Owen Tulloch then by current master blender Joy Spence, to create the exceptional Appleton Estate 50 Year Old Jamaica Rum - Jamaica Independence Reserve.
The Appleton Estate 50 Year Old Jamaica Rum - Jamaica Independence Reserve was launched on June 7, 2012 at Jamaica House in Kingston, Jamaica with the event attended by a number of dignitaries including the Prime Minister of Jamaica, the honourable Portia Simpson-Miller. The rum was made available for sale in Jamaica immediately after the launch and is currently being rolled out in key markets around the world through select, specialist premium retailers, exclusive style and classic on-premise partner accounts and in select duty free stores.
"We are very proud of the Appleton Estate 50 Year Old Jamaica Rum - Jamaica Independence Reserve," said Andy Holmes, chief operating officer - international of J. Wray & Nephew Limited, owners of the Appleton Estate Jamaica Rum brand. A statement of age may be given on the label of rum in terms such as '…years old." Where a statement is given, the blank shall be filled in with the age of the youngest distilled spirit in the product.
All rum maturation warehouses owned and operated by J. Wray & Nephew Limited (owners of the Appleton Estate Jamaica Rum brand) are supervised by Government Excise Officers.
