Applications now being accepted for third annual Community Conservation Awards
TORONTO, March 31, 2014 /CNW/ - The Ontario Power Authority (OPA) is calling on municipalities across Ontario to submit an entry for the 2014 Community Conservation Awards (CCAs) to showcase their contribution to promoting energy efficiency, building a culture of conservation and supporting province-wide conservation goals
The Ontario Power Authority is responsible for ensuring a reliable, sustainable supply of electricity for Ontario. Its key areas of focus are planning the power system for the long term, leading and coordinating conservation initiatives across the province, and ensuring development of needed generation resources.
Now in its third year, the initiative is led by the OPA in collaboration with the Association of Municipalities of Ontario (AMO) and the Electricity Distributors Association (EDA).
The application period will run from March 31 until May 30, 2014. Finalists will be chosen in June, and winners are scheduled to be announced at the AMO annual general meeting in August 2014.
The Community Conservation Awards are presented to communities that demonstrate strong achievement in the following areas:
- Conservation leadership
- Innovation and market transformation
- Corporate/internal and community engagement.
The awards are open to all cities, towns and municipalities in Ontario. Applying is easy -- municipalities are required to submit an entry form with a written submission highlighting their efforts in a specific conservation initiative undertaken in their community. More information on the CCA application process is available at powerauthority.on.ca/cca.
The winners of the 2013 Community Conservation Awards were Burlington, Sault Ste. Marie and South-West Oxford. Learn more about the efforts of these municipalities on the OPA website.
