A three-year mandate for Ms. Sharon Elizabeth Sparkes
OTTAWA, April 2, 2015 /CNW/ - The Honourable Lisa Raitt, Minister of Transport, today announced the appointment of Ms. Sharon Elizabeth Sparkes of St. John's, Newfoundland and Labrador, to the board of Canada Post Corporation for a three-year term.
Ms. Sparkes has held a number of senior executive positions over the last 26 years.
As Senior Vice President and Chief Financial Officer (CFO) of the Newfoundland and Labrador Liquor Corporation, she is responsible for the Financial Management of the Corporation. She is also responsible for the Corporation's Regulatory Services Division, which issues licenses to businesses in regards to the sale and distribution of beverage alcohol in the province. In this capacity, she has responsibility for ensuring regulatory compliance which includes inspection of licensed premises and licensee education. She also oversees investigations and the conduct of hearings into cases of alleged licensee violations.
Previously, Ms. Sparkes held the position of Corporate Controller at Stratos Global Corporation. There, she managed the corporate and divisional finance departments, provided direction and oversight in the implementation and restructuring of the accounting group following acquisitions and expansion of the company.
A qualified Chartered Accountant, Ms. Sparkes has a Master of Business Administration and Bachelor of Commerce from Memorial University of Newfoundland and has served on committees, including Chairperson of the Association of Liquor Licensing Authorities of Canada.
