Three-year mandate for Mr. Rafik Souccar
OTTAWA, June 24, 2015 /CNW/ - The Honourable Lisa Raitt, Minister of Transport, today announced the appointment of Mr. Rafik Souccar of Ottawa to the board of directors of the Canadian Air Transport Security Authority (CATSA) for a term of three years.
Mr. Souccar was recently Chief Security Officer of the Royal Canadian Mint from 2011-2014. Prior to holding this position, he was a deputy commissioner of the Royal Canadian Mounted Police (RCMP) from 2008 to 2011, an assistant commissioner, Federal and International Operations, from 2005 to 2008, and chief superintendent and director general, Drugs and Organized Crime, from 2002 to 2005.
He is a member of the Canadian Association of Chiefs of Police, the Law Society of Upper Canada, the International Bar Association and the American Society for Industrial Security.
Mr. Souccar holds a Bachelor of Laws (LL.B.) and a Bachelor of Administration from the University of Ottawa, and completed the Director's Education Program from the Institute of Corporate Directors of the University of Toronto.
He was awarded the Queen's Golden Jubilee Medal in 2002, the Officer of the Order of Merit of the Police Forces by the Governor General of Canada in 2007, and the Queen's Diamond Jubilee Medal in 2012.
