OTTAWA, Nov. 29, 2012 /CNW/ - The Honourable Denis Lebel, Minister of Transport, Infrastructure and Communities, today announced the appointment of Mr. Germain Thibault to the Montreal Port Authority for a three-year term.
"I am pleased that Mr. Thibault has agreed to serve on the board of the Montreal Port Authority," said Minister Lebel. "His excellent communications and leadership skills will be great assets to the Authority."
Mr. Thibault, of Quebec, is co-founder and director general of the Grand défi Pierre Lavoie, a project he launched in 2008 with Pierre Lavoie, president of the Association de l'acidose lactique, to encourage elementary school pupils across Quebec to adopt healthy lifestyle habits. Prior to this, Mr. Thibault had a distinguished career in broadcasting at Société Radio-Canada, which included winning four Gemini awards. He joined Radio-Canada in 1985 as a producer and researcher on a parliamentary program, and over the next 23 years went on to produce a series of news and current affairs programs including "Ce Soir, Québec", "Le Point", "Enjeux", "Zone libre" and "Enquête".
The Montreal Port Authority is the Canada Port Authority (CPA) established to manage the Port of Montreal under the Canada Marine Act. Eighteen CPAs now make up Canada's national port system. The CPAs are non-share capital corporations incorporated under the Canada Marine Act that are of strategic significance to Canada's trade.
