GATINEAU, QC, Nov. 30, 2012 /CNW/ - The Honourable James Moore, Minister of Canadian Heritage and Official Languages, today announced the appointment of Michael J. Tims as Chairperson of the Board of Trustees of the National Gallery of Canada.
"I am delighted that Mr. Tims has accepted the invitation to serve as Chairperson of the Board of Trustees," said Minister Moore. "His service as a member of this board over the last four years, as well as his dedication and commitment to the arts and the community, will continue to be of great benefit to the Gallery."
Michael J. Tims was first appointed as Vice-Chairperson of the National Gallery of Canada Board of Trustees on June 18, 2008 for a four-year term. Mr. Tims is currently Chairman of Peters & Co. Limited, a Calgary-based investment firm where he has worked in various capacities since 1980.
Mr. Tims is very involved in his community and has served on the boards and committees of several organizations, including the Canadian Investor Protection Fund and the Investment Dealers Association of Canada as Chairman, as well as the United Way of Calgary and Area, and West Island College. He is presently a member of the Management Advisory Council at the Haskayne School of Business of the University of Calgary. He remains active in several other not-for-profit organizations, such as the United Way and Jane Goodall Institute of Canada.
Mr. Tims, a Chartered Business Valuator, holds a Bachelor of Commerce from the University of Calgary, a Master of Business Administration from Harvard University Graduate School of Business Administration, and an honorary Doctor of Laws degree from the University of Calgary.
