OTTAWA, March 9, 2012 /CNW/ - The Honourable Denis Lebel, Minister of Transport, Infrastructure and Communities, today announced the appointment of Dr. Éric Dupont of Ste-Pétronille, Quebec, to the board of directors of the Québec Port Authority for a three-year term, effective March 1, 2012.
"I am pleased that Dr. Dupont has agreed to serve on the board of the Québec Port Authority," said Minister Lebel. "Not only is he an accomplished scientist, inventor, financier and philanthropist, he is also an influential businessman. His commitment to serving the public with vision and leadership will be a tremendous asset to the authority."
Dr. Dupont completed his post-doctoral studies in neuro-endocrinology in 1993 and holds a doctoral degree in physiology-endocrinology, a certificate in business administration and a bachelor's degree in biochemistry from Laval University. The recipient of prestigious prizes and bursaries, Dr. Dupont is well known for being an avant-garde and visionary leader. Co-founder of Æterna Zentaris Inc. and Atrium Innovations, his efforts have achieved remarkable success and have played a part in ensuring the sustainability and the reputation of the companies both locally and internationally. He actively contributes to the economic development of the Québec region through his unique vision, his numerous engagements and his generous donations.
The Québec Port Authority is the Canada Port Authority (CPA) established to manage the Port of Québec, under the Canada Marine Act. Seventeen CPAs now make up Canada's national port system. The CPAs are non-share capital corporations incorporated under the Canada Marine Act that are of strategic significance to Canada's trade. Their effective operation contributes to Canada's global competitiveness.
