Appointment to the Vancouver Fraser Port Authority
OTTAWA, June 29 /CNW Telbec/ - Canada's Transport Minister John Baird today announced the appointment of Ms. Marcella Szel of West Vancouver, British Columbia, to the board of directors of the Vancouver Fraser Port Authority for a term of three years, effective June 19.
"I am pleased that Ms. Szel has agreed to serve on the board of the Vancouver Fraser Port Authority," said Baird. "Her significant management, corporate and legal experience will be a valuable asset to the work of the board."
Ms. Szel holds a B.A. and an honours law degree from the University of Alberta. She worked for Canadian Pacific Railway from 1977 to 2009, where she held a number of senior positions, including senior vice-president of marketing and sales, senior vice-president of marketing and government affairs, and vice-president of strategy, law and corporate secretary. Currently a member of the Global Transportation Hub Authority (Saskatchewan) and a trustee of the Vancouver Police Foundation, Ms. Szel also brings with her a wealth of experience on other committees and boards.
The Vancouver Fraser Port Authority is the Canada Port Authority (CPA) established to manage the Port of Vancouver Fraser under the Canada Marine Act. Seventeen CPAs now make up Canada's national port system. The CPAs are non-share capital corporations incorporated under the Canada Marine Act and are of strategic significance to Canada's trade. Their effective operation contributes to Canada's global competitiveness as a trading nation.
