OTTAWA, March 13, 2013 /CNW/ - The Honourable Denis Lebel, Minister of Transport, Infrastructure and Communities, today announced the appointment of Ms. Jane Mowat to the board of VIA Rail Canada Inc. for a term of three years.
"I am very pleased that Ms. Mowat has accepted this position," said Minister Lebel. "VIA will benefit greatly from her operational, financial and business development expertise."
Ms. Mowat has more than 20 years of experience within the information technology industry, and significant expertise in business development. Since 2003, Ms. Mowat has been an independent business advisor, providing assistance on acquisition targets. Her responsibilities include oversight of acquisition activities, direct involvement in business case analysis, deal negotiations, due diligence, legal oversight and financing. Previously, Ms. Mowat was chief financial officer of Centrinity, where she led the company's financial re-engineering and stabilization. She also worked as general manager for IBM from 1996 to 2000, and as chief financial officer of ISM Information System Management Corporation from 1990 to 1995.
Ms. Mowat has also acquired appreciable governance experience by serving on boards such as Coventree Inc., FirstHand Inc., Allstream and Centrinity Inc. Ms. Mowat holds a bachelor of commerce from the University of Toronto, and a chartered accountant designation.
VIA Rail Canada Inc., a Crown corporation, was created in 1977 and operates Canada's national passenger rail service. The board of directors is responsible for overseeing the business activities and other affairs of the corporation.
