OTTAWA, March 13, 2017 /CNW/ - The Government of Canada is committed to an open, transparent and merit-based selection process for Governor in Council appointments that serve Canadians' interests.
In keeping with this commitment, the Honourable Karina Gould, Minister of Democratic Institutions, and the Minister responsible for the Transportation Safety Board, today announced the appointment of Paul George Dittmann as Member of the Transportation Safety Board. This appointment is for four years, starting on May 1, 2017. The Minister has also announced the reappointment of Joseph Hincke for a term of three years, starting on April 9, 2017.
These appointments were made as part of the Government of Canada's rigorous approach to Governor in Council appointments—an approach that uses open, transparent and merit-based selection processes that strive for gender parity and reflects Canada's diversity.

- To instill public confidence in the transportation accident investigation process, it is essential that the Transportation Safety Board (TSB) be independent and free from any conflicts of interest when investigating accidents, identifying safety deficiencies, and making safety recommendations.
- As an independent agency, the TSB reports to Parliament through the Minister of Democratic Institutions, in her capacity as President of the Queen's Privy Council.
