Appraisals expert Sean Ashworth joins Avison Young in Toronto
Industry leader becomes a Senior Vice-President, will focus on the real valuation and appraisal of institutional commercial real estate
TORONTO, Jan. 26, 2016 /CNW/ - Martin Dockrill, Avison Young Principal and Managing Director of the firm's Ontario region, announced today that industry leader Sean Ashworth has joined the company in its downtown Toronto office.
Effective immediately, Ashworth becomes Senior Vice-President of valuation and advisory services in Toronto. He will focus on expanding the company's institutional client base while collaborating with his new colleagues across the company.
"We're delighted to have Sean join us as we continue to expand our real estate valuation and advisory service-line coverage across Toronto and Ontario," comments Dockrill. "Sean's unique perspective on the Toronto and broader North American real estate markets will prove invaluable to Avison Young and our clients as we strive to provide the highest level of service on a local, national and global basis. Furthermore, Sean is a proven industry leader who will provide leading-edge valuation services to investors, pension funds, REITs and real estate-related financial institutions."
Ashworth brings more than 20 years of commercial real estate valuation and appraisal experience to Avison Young. Prior to joining the firm, he served for five years as a real estate valuations, investment and finance associate at the Canada Pension Plan Investment Board (CPPIB).
"Sean's extensive valuation experience with institutional-grade assets during his 20-plus-year career will prove invaluable in raising the level of credibility and knowledge within our real estate valuation team," states Paul Stewart, Avison Young Principal and practice leader, valuation and advisory services. "His presence will also aid in the ongoing growth of our team as we continue to recruit top real estate appraisal talent."
Ashworth holds an AACI designation from the Appraisal Institute of Canada and, in addition to his appraisal skills, he has a unique combination of experience in asset management, real estate valuation software and acquisitions/dispositions. He has consistently worked as an employee and consultant in corporate settings. At CPPIB, he was responsible for managing the $20-billion-plus retail and office valuations for the organization's joint-venture real estate investments throughout North America and South America. Prior to working at CPPIB, Ashworth worked as a consultant for 10 years, providing asset management, acquisition/disposition and software services to corporate clients across North America.
"I am very excited to be joining Avison Young, and I look forward to working with Paul and his team," says Ashworth. "He is a talented appraiser with great depth of knowledge in the Toronto real estate market. Together, our objective is to offer new and existing clients a full range of valuation and real estate advisory services that meet and exceed their unique business needs – regardless of asset size. The decision to move to Avison Young was easy; it is a dynamic, rapidly growing company that is open to new ideas and business processes, and I am eager to participate in its continuing growth and success."
In addition to his valuation experience, Ashworth is a recognized expert in real estate financial software and has completed numerous software implementations in Canada and the U.S.
"Financial software is key to understanding the complexities of real estate assets and portfolios," adds Ashworth. "The assumptions and characteristics unique to each asset are synthesized in the financial modelling process, resulting in the most accurate appraisal report possible. My experience allows me to view value from the different perspectives of various stakeholders, including private or institutional investors, developers, lenders or tenants. I look forward to sharing these insights with Avison Young's new and existing clients and my new colleagues in Ontario, the rest of Canada, the U.S., Mexico and Europe."
