April is Daffodil Month

LCBO stores raise funds for the Canadian Cancer Society

TORONTO, April 7, 2015 /CNW/ - This April, the public can help support the Canadian Cancer Society by making a donation to buy a daffodil pin at any of the more than 650 LCBO stores throughout Ontario. Donation boxes for the Society's annual Daffodil Month fundraising campaign will be displayed at LCBO checkout counters until April 25.

Donations made during Daffodil Month help cancer patients and their families in communities across Ontario, by funding life-saving research, support services and other important work so that fewer Canadians will be touched by cancer.

Thanks to Ontarians' generous support of Daffodil Month and the Canadian Cancer Society's other fundraising programs, the charity was able to fund $20.4 million in world-class research to fight all cancers in 2013-14. During this time, the Society also provided critical support services to more than 49,000 Ontarians.

"When you buy and wear a daffodil pin, you show people living with cancer that they are not alone. We won't give up until all forms of the disease are defeated," says Susan Drodge, Director of Corporate and Community Partnerships for the Canadian Cancer Society in Ontario. "We want to thank LCBO's generous customers and supportive staff who help us raise significant funds to support work that is making a difference in the lives of cancer patients and their families."

The Canadian Cancer Society is one of 28 provincial and numerous local charities that will benefit from LCBO's province-wide donation box program in 2015. In 2013, LCBO raised a total of more than $8.2 million for charities through special programs and initiatives, of which $7.7 million was raised through in-store fundraising. In addition, LCBO's annual dividend transfer to the Ontario government, which totaled $1.74 billion in fiscal 2013-14, excluding taxes, supports a wide range of important government programs, services and priorities, including health care and education.
