MONTREAL, May 21, 2014 /CNW Telbec/ - Heralding the imminent arrival of the summer season, Parc Jean-Drapeau's Aquatic Complex opens from 11 a.m. to 5 p.m. this Saturday, May 24, and for every weekend until June 8. Its outdoor competition pool is the first to open on the island of Montréal. Gradually, the recreational pool will open on May 31, as will the two trampolines and water games, much to the delight of families. The pools will then be open every day as of June 9. As for the diving pool, it will be mainly used by sports clubs, but will be open to the public starting June 1st, according to the schedule.
Spontaneous activities on some of the Saturdays
Starting on May 31 according to the calendar of activities, Samedis gonflés is back on the program this year so that children can have fun on an inflatable game set up in the water of the recreational pool and also enjoy the animated activities. For those who are more sports-oriented, introductory clinics on water polo are being offered by Waterpolo Québec.
Major sports competitions
The former training venue for the swimming events at the 1976 Olympics, the Aquatic Complex is the perfect place to host international-level sports competitions. The 15th FINA World Masters Championships certainly fall into this category, as the event brings together 10,000 athletes from 60 countries who will be competing in open water and synchronized swimming, diving, swimming and water polo, from July 25 to August 10, 2014. While the event is on, the pools will be closed for free-time swimming, but the public is invited to attend the Championships and watch the action from the grandstands.
