ArcelorMittal One of Canada's Top Corporate Citizens

HAMILTON, ON, June 22 /CNW/ - Corporate Knights Magazine has ranked ArcelorMittal Canada as one of the country's most sustainable corporations. The recognition comes in Corporate Knights annual ranking of Canada's largest and most influential companies.

Corporate Knights recognized ArcelorMittal for its focus on managing its business according to the principles of sustainability. The annual listing highlights global corporations most proactive in managing environmental, social and governance (ESG) issues. More than 3,000 companies were assessed against 10 baseline indicators including tax generation, leadership diversity, carbon productivity and innovation capacity.

Elizabeth E. May, O.C., Leader, Green Party of Canada attended the award ceremony. "Congratulations to ArcelorMittal for gaining Corporate Knights' recognition for achievements in sustainability," May said. "ArcelorMittal's national operations have continued to build on the company's longstanding accomplishments. ArcelorMittal Dofasco was an early adopter using an electric arc furnace on a blast furnace site, which netted major improvements in air emissions in steelmaking at the Hamilton site."

Corporate Knights', Editor-in-Chief Toby Heaps said the company ranks in the top 10% of companies in the metals and mining sector.
