Ardent Mills Expands Voluntary Recall of Flour Products in Full Cooperation with Canadian Food Inspection Agency Français
Ardent Mills Offers Tips to Safely Enjoy Flour Products Made with Canadian Wheat
BRAMPTON, ON, May 27, 2017 /CNW/ - Ardent Mills has cooperated fully with the Canadian Food Inspection Agency (CFIA) by voluntarily recalling certain brands of flour and flour products. CFIA requested this expanded recall of flour and flour products which were made, in part, using 11 loads of Canadian wheat which were common to the prior recalled flour and flour products and may have contained trace amounts of E. coli 0121. It is with extreme caution and commitment to food safety that Ardent Mills is expanding this recall. There has been no positive finding of contamination and no reported illnesses associated with the consumption of these newly recalled products.
Flour is a raw agricultural commodity made by simply grinding and sifting wheat. Any raw grain milled into flour can contain bacteria and microbes from the outdoor environment in which it is grown. The recalled products contain no greater or lesser risk, in this regard, than any other flour or flour products milled using such time-honored traditions.
"Consumer food safety is of paramount importance to Ardent Mills, and our mills adhere to stringent and mandated food safety protocols to ensure pathogenic bacteria are not introduced during the milling process at any of our operations," says Kent Juliot, Vice President of Research, Quality, and Technical Services for Ardent Mills, whose operations and services are supported by more than 40 flour mills and bakery-mix facilities across North America.
Ardent Mills offers tips consumers can follow to cook, bake, and enjoy delicious grain-based products, safely while using flour made from Canadian wheat. By thoroughly cooking, baking, boiling, roasting, frying or microwaving food items made with flour, any microbes are rendered harmless.
- Do not taste raw dough, batter or any other product containing uncooked flour. Eating a small amount could make you sick.
- Bake or cook items made with raw dough or batter before eating them.
- Always use hot water and soap to wash any bowls, utensils, or surfaces on which flour was used.
- Wash your hands with soap and warm water immediately after touching flour, raw dough or batter.
