TORONTO, April 3, 2018 /CNW/ - Bell Media confirmed this morning a free live event at Yonge-Dundas Square on Thursday, April 5 at 9 p.m. ET in celebration of a special announcement for Toronto to be made that night. The #LightUpthe6ix street-level event features performances by Canadian artists Arkells and City and Colour, and is co-hosted by CTV YOUR MORNING's Ben Mulroney and Anne-Marie Mediwake.
Arkells, comprised of vocalist and guitarist Max Kerman, guitarist Michael DeAngelis, bassist Nick Dika, drummer Tim Oxford, and keyboardist Anthony Carone, have been relentlessly touring in support of their latest album, Morning Report. The four-time JUNO award-winners recently earned marquee festival appearance slots at some of the biggest festivals in the US, including Coachella, Lollapalooza, and Bonnaroo. Their most recent hit single, "Knocking At The Door", spent an unprecedented 14 weeks at #1 on the Canadian Alt/Rock charts, making it the most played Alt/Rock song of 2017, and Arkells the most played band of the year.
City and Colour, the moniker of Ontario native, singer-songwriter Dallas Green, is undeniably one of the biggest groundswell stories to emerge from Canada. His achievements include three JUNO Awards, including two Songwriter of the Year awards (2009, 2012), three Double Platinum-certified albums, six Platinum-certified albums, and two Gold-certified albums in Canada (City and Colour, Alexisonfire, and You+Me). Green's latest and fifth City and Colour studio release, If I Should Go Before You, debuted #1 on the Top 200 Soundscan, his third consecutive chart-topper in Canada. The LP also made serious waves internationally debuting at #16 on the U.S. Billboard 200 Chart, and #5 in Australia where Green's LP Little Hell went Gold. In 2014, Green collaborated with international superstar Alecia Moore (aka P!nk) on a new project titled You+Me. The duo's acclaimed debut, rose ave., debuted at #4 on the U.S. Top 200 Chart, #1 in Canada, and #2 in Australia, culminating in memorable performances on THE ELLEN DEGENERES SHOW and JIMMY KIMMEL LIVE!.
In anticipation of Thursday's big event, the Toronto skies will be lit blue tomorrow night. For more details, please follow #LightUpthe6ix and #BellBlueSky on Twitter and Instagram, and join the Facebook event.
