Arrimage 2013 explores Scientific Imagination at the MAC

MONTREAL, April 15, 2013 /CNW Telbec/ - The 2013 edition of the exhibition Arrimage, on display at the Musée d'art contemporain de Montréal until April 28, is the culmination of an educational project that ran throughout the school year and involved more than 700 elementary and secondary schoolchildren. This year, they explored the theme Scientific Imagination.

Over the past few months, the participating students searched, imagined, experimented, invented and created, much like the artists and scientists they came into contact with during the project. This creative adventure began with a visit to the Montréal Science Centre, where they investigated the speculative aspect of science and technologies. They had to reflect on such questions as: How might today's science change our lives in the future? And to what extent can we even imagine science as it will be in that future? Then, on a visit to the MAC, they observed how some artists draw on the world of science to nurture their practices. Finally, under the guidance of their art teachers, they worked the theme into a collective creation.

This year, twenty-two schools from three school boards took part in Arrimage. The project is organized by the Musée d'art contemporain de Montréal under the program A Montréal School for All established by Québec's Ministère de l'Éducation, du Loisir et du Sport. The Musée's partner in the project, the Montréal Science Centre, will host the show from July 1, 2013 to March 31, 2014.

At the Musée d'art contemporain de Montréal, the project is in the hands of Sylvie Pelletier, Head of Tours; her counterpart at the Montréal Science Centre is Olivier Grant, Project Manager, Education and Training.
