Arup Selected by Husky Energy to Design Wellhead Platform Concrete Gravity Structure for White Rose Extension Project
When completed, will be first fixed wellhead platform installed off the coast of Newfoundland & Labrador, Canada
HOUSTON, April 18, 2014 /CNW/ - Arup, a multidisciplinary engineering and consulting firm with a reputation for delivering innovative and sustainable designs, announced today that it has been selected by Husky Energy to carry out the detailed engineering design (DED) for the White Rose Extension Project (WREP) concrete gravity structure. Subject to partner, corporate and regulatory approvals, WREP is being developed through the construction of a wellhead platform, and Arup will be responsible for the DED of the concrete gravity structure (CGS) of the wellhead platform. The CGS will be constructed in a purpose-built dry graving dock and, when completed, will be the first fixed wellhead platform off the coast of Newfoundland & Labrador.
Arup was engaged by Husky Energy to perform a concept study for the wellhead platform and provided project management and design services for the pre-Front End Engineering Design (pre-FEED) and FEED. This included management of the pre-FEED of the topside drilling and accommodation module supported on the ~72,000m3 CGS platform. The firm's concept centered on using a dry-build solution for the CGS, which allows the CGS to be constructed entirely onshore and then towed 350 km east of Newfoundland to the site and installed by ballasting on to the seabed.
In addition to project management and design services, Arup provided the following services:
- Offshore engineering
- Structural, mechanical and electrical engineering
- Civil engineering
- Cost estimating
- Geotechnical engineering
- Maritime engineering
- Seismic design
Key collaborators on the project include Mustang Canada Inc. who completed the drilling and accommodation FEED; Upstream Engineering LLC for the drilling and accommodation concept and pre-FEED; and C-CORE for the definition of sea ice and iceberg loading criteria.
