As part of an economic development mission to New York City - Montréal Mayor announces technology leader Orion Systems Integrators to set up in Montréal Français
NEW YORK, April 14, 2014 /CNW Telbec/ - As part of an economic development mission to New York City, Montréal Mayor and President of the Communauté métropolitaine de Montréal (CMM) Denis Coderre, along with Montréal International and Investissement Québec, today announced that Orion Systems Integrators, Inc (ORION), an Information Technology software and solutions provider, is establishing a research and development centre in Montréal to serve both new and existing U.S. and international clients.
According to Orion President and CEO Sunil Mehta, Montréal provides the ideal location for a research and development centre to offer application development and support to help ORION's global clients maintain a competitive advantage. "We are extremely pleased to be expanding ORION's footprint into Montréal. The talent pool in the region is exceptional and our team is looking forward to providing innovative research and development services to new and existing clients," Mr. Mehta said. "The tremendous support provided by Montréal International, Investissement Québec and the Canadian Consulate General in New York has been instrumental in getting this initiative off the ground in a smooth and timely manner," stated Rudy Ramcharitar, Executive Vice President, Orion.
The objective of the three-day mission was to promote the economic advantages of locating in Greater Montréal to a broad spectrum of U.S. businesses and organizations. "As a metropolitan city, we are constantly looking for economic development opportunities both locally and internationally," said Montréal Mayor Denis Coderre. As the Mayor of Montréal, I enthusiastically bring to the attention of our commercial partners all the advantages they get when they locate in the Greater Montréal area. That is why I am in New York today and that is why I will be going to Europe next month."
Montréal International, whose mandate is to attract direct foreign investments to the Greater Montréal area, knows that economic development missions such as this one are a key tactic for promoting Montréal. "Having the Montréal Mayor and President of the CMM lead the mission shows that attracting businesses that can thrive and grow here is a priority for the city and surrounding areas," said Dominique Anglade, President and CEO of Montréal International. "We are therefore delighted to have guided Orion in their choice of Greater Montréal. Foreign companies contribute significantly to the development of our high tech centres and they add to the critical mass of what is already a high tech crossroads of innovation, research and development."
"We are delighted that a multinational like ORION has chosen Québec as the location for its first development centre in Québec. That choice is in part due to the great collaboration between the partners and the Investissement Québec international team that showcased Québec's competitive advantages. The combination of a qualified workforce and corporate tax advantages make Québec very attractive to new IT companies," said Mario Albert, President and CEO of Investissement Québec.
