ASC Announces Appointment of New Commission Member
CALGARY, May 17 /CNW/ - The Alberta Securities Commission (ASC) is pleased to announce the Lieutenant Governor in Council has appointed Daniel McKinley, FCA, as a member of the Alberta Securities Commission for a three-year term.
Mr. McKinley brings a wealth of experience and knowledge from the accounting profession that will serve the ASC well in the undertaking of its responsibility to ensure confidence in the integrity of Alberta's capital market and protect investors.
Mr. McKinley has over 30 years experience in public accounting and is currently a partner in the Grant Thornton tax services group in Edmonton. During his career, Mr. McKinley has specialized in matters of taxation and related areas, such as financing proposals, restructuring arrangements, cross border transactions and operations, and litigation settlements. He received his Bachelor of Commerce degree from the University of Alberta and, in 2001, was awarded his FCA designation by the Institute of Chartered Accountants of Alberta.
The ASC also recognizes with gratitude the valued service of Karl M. Ewoniak, CA, who retired from the ASC March 31, 2010 when his term expired.
Members of the ASC act as the board of directors for the organization, functioning as adjudicators of applications, disputes and enforcement proceedings before the Commission. They also approve recommendations for amendments to provincial securities laws, and new or revised rules and policies applicable to the Alberta capital market.
The ASC is the regulatory agency responsible for administering the province's securities laws. It is entrusted to foster a fair and efficient capital market in Alberta and to protect investors. As a member of the Canadian Securities Administrators, the ASC works to improve, coordinate and harmonize the regulation of Canada's capital markets.
