Asha Tomlinson Named New Anchor of CBC News Windsor
WINDSOR, ON, Aug. 7, 2013 /CNW/ - CBC Windsor announced today that Asha Tomlinson has been named new host of CBC News Windsor weeknights from 5:30 p.m. to 7p.m., starting September 2, 2013.
"Asha is a strong addition to our journalistic team," says Shawna Kelly, managing editor of CBC Windsor. "We're looking forward to having Asha at the helm of our local television newscast 5:30p.m. weeknights. As the host of CBC Windsor's flagship television news program, Asha will be providing Windsor and area audiences with the news that matters most to them."
Asha is no stranger to the city of Windsor and its communities. She graduated from the University of Windsor with Honours in Communications and after completing a freelance program with CBC Windsor, she has never looked back.
Her career in journalism includes working at commercial television stations in Toronto, London, Winnipeg, and Edmonton, and for the public broadcaster in Nunavut before returning to Toronto almost three years ago, to host at CBC News Network. Asha's solid breaking news coverage has seen her covering top news stories like the bankruptcy filing for the city of Detroit, the train derailment in Lac Megantic and the Alberta flooding. She was also the host and co-producer of the CBC News Network's program special Being Black in Canada.
Along with her work in the community Asha was the co-host for the 2013 Harry Jerome Awards and has been an Ambassador for the Leukemia & Lymphoma Society of Canada.
Taking the reins of the supperhour news in Windsor is like coming home to Asha. "I'm looking forward to reconnecting with the city and sharing the stories of our community starting Labour Day," says Asha.
Beginning September 2, 2013, CBC News Windsor will broadcast every weekday from 5:30 p.m. to 7 p.m. on CBC Television Channel 9, Cogeco Cable 10, Bell 587 and live-streamed at CBC.ca/Windsor.
