Media Advisory - Assembly of First Nations to Convene National Policy Forum on Nation Building and Four Key Federal Policies - May 1 & 2 in Edmonton, Alberta Français
OTTAWA, April 30, 2019 /CNW/ - The Assembly of First Nations (AFN) is convening a national forum on First Nations Led Processes: The Four Policies and Nation Building from May 1-2, 2019 in Edmonton, Alberta. The Forum will provide an opportunity to look at ways to advance and deal with obstacles on the four key federal policies that require fundamental change: the Specific Claims policy, the Additions to Reserves policy, the Comprehensive Land Claims policy, and the Inherent Right policy.
AFN National Chief Perry Bellegarde will deliver an Opening Address to delegates on May 1 at approximately 9:15 a.m.
The Minister of Crown-Indigenous Relations, the Honourable Carolyn Bennett, will address the Forum on May 2 at 10:30 a.m. (all times local).
The Forum is taking place at the Edmonton Inn and Conference Centre, 11830 Kingsway NW.
The Forum will hear from a number of high profile speakers on a number of topics supporting the implementation of Treaty rights, inherent rights, title and jurisdiction. Delegates will hear updates and have an opportunity to dialogue on current work to reorient the four federal policies from denial of rights towards recognition of First Nations rights and examine the path forward.
