At My Best ® Play Day 2012 Kicks Off in Calgary
St. Hubert Elementary School to host second annual national At My Best® Play Day children's wellness event
CALGARY, June 7, 2012 /CNW/ - Physical and Health Education Canada (PHE Canada) is celebrating the second annual At My Best® Play Day, a children's wellness event that is making an impact in the lives of hundreds of thousands of students across Canada. The At My Best® Play Day Calgary event is being hosted by Arianne Jones, Canadian World Cup Luge Athlete at St. Hubert Elementary School, kicking off at 10:00 a.m. MST.
At My Best® is a school-based children's wellness program for students in kindergarten to grade three. It focuses on three key areas of wellness: physical activity, healthy eating and emotional well-being. The focus of the program is to inspire and motivate children (and their families) to make healthier choices today and develop lifelong healthy habits. The At My Best® Play Day celebrates the healthy living lessons that children have learned through the program by bringing together schools, families and communities through engaging and interactive events.
Calgary's St. Hubert Elementary School will celebrate the At My Best® Play Day with a Western-themed event in honour of Calgary Stampede's Centennial Year. The play day will consist of many different activities for students including cowboy's tag, line dancing, three legged horse racing, and much more.
Arianne Jones, Canadian World Cup Luge Athlete will join students at St. Hubert Elementary School to talk about and demonstrate the importance of living an active lifestyle. "Learning the importance of physical activity, healthy eating, and emotional well-being at a young age through athletics was important for me," said Arianne Jones. "I hope to impart the importance of living an active life to students across the city and country."
PHE Canada is excited to further their commitment to having all children and youth in Canada living healthy, physically active lives through the At My Best® program. "We are proud to be able to continue to encourage children and youth to lead healthy, physically active lives through the At My Best® program," said Caley Hartney, Program Manager at PHE Canada. "We have collaboratively developed a program that can support the delivery of quality school health and physical education all while helping to motivate and empower children towards a healthier, more active lifestyle."
With continued support by AstraZeneca Canada Inc., the At My Best® program officially launched in October 2008. To date, At My Best® has been implemented in more than 3,000 schools and has reached over 750,000 students across the country.
