TORONTO, May 4, 2012 /CNW/ - Today, Toronto 2015 Pan/Parapan Am Games Organizing Committee (TO2015) announced the official name of the Athletes' Village: CIBC Pan and Parapan Am Games Athletes' Village.
The Athletes' Village will house more than 10,000 athletes, coaches and officials in the West Don Lands community, providing a safe and comfortable home-away-from-home during the Toronto 2015 Games. After the Games, the site will be transformed into a mixed-use, pedestrian-friendly, riverside community where residents can live, work and raise a family.
At an announcement today, celebrating the official opening of the CIBC branch serving the Athletes' Village, the financial service institution also announced a $1 million commitment to young people involved in amateur sport with the CIBC Youthvision Scholarship Athlete Award. This initiative will help 30 individuals achieve their goals as they prepare for athletic competition and their careers post-Games.
"As the Lead Partner for the 2015 Games, CIBC has fully embraced their role inspiring a generation of athletes with a commitment to benefiting Canadians in amateur sports," said Ian Troop, TO2015 Chief Executive Officer. "This underscores their continued commitment to the Games and their generous support of athletes and amateur sport in Canada."
"CIBC has truly stepped up to help deliver the Games and more," said Katherine Henderson, TO2015 Senior Vice President of Marketing and Revenue. "Their commitment and investment clearly goes beyond the field of play and into communities and sport."
CIBC was announced as Lead Partner for the Toronto 2015 Pan/Parapan American Games in October 2011. The four-year partnership agreement provides CIBC with sole Lead Partner status and exclusive sponsorship rights among financial institutions.
