TORONTO, Feb. 3, 2014 /CNW/ - Today, Atos announced it is joining the TORONTO 2015 Pan Am/Parapan Am Games as its newest Premier Partner. The company, with Canadian headquarters in Mississauga, ON, will provide Games systems integration services, as well as timing, scoring and results solutions and services for the Games at more than 30 competition venues in 15 different municipalities.
That means when sprinters cross the finish line in world-record time or the time clock ticks down the remaining seconds in a deadlocked soccer match at the Games, the split-second technology determining the winners will be from Atos — and so will be the business technologists working with the Organizing Committee to build and operate the mission-critical timing, scoring and results systems required to stage the Games.
In addition to timing, scoring and results, Atos will also provide TO2015 with Games systems integration services, including resources to manage and build systems at the equipment deployment centre, a centralized Games-time helpdesk and provide staff critical to the successful planning, deployment and operation of the venues.
"Atos is a global end-to-end IT services company and a longtime Worldwide Olympic and Paralympic Partner," explained Patrick Adiba, CEO Olympic Games and Major Events, Atos. "We're pleased to bring our cutting-edge technology and wealth of Games expertise and experience to help make the TORONTO 2015 Pan Am/Parapan Am Games a great success."
As part of the partnership, the new multipurpose centre under construction in downtown Markham — where athletes will compete in Pan Am badminton, table tennis and water polo, as well as Parapan table tennis — will be named the Atos Markham Pan Am/Parapan Am Centre during Games time.
"The innovative spirit of Atos and its recognized talent in delivering some of the most high-profile international sporting events in the world makes it a wonderful partner for the TORONTO 2015 Games," said Saäd Rafi, chief executive officer of the TORONTO 2015 Pan Am/Parapan Am Games Organizing Committee (TO2015).
"Its work will be front and centre whenever spectators and athletes look at scoreboards during the Games or fans read results at TORONTO2015.org," he continued. "We look forward to working with Atos to make these the best Pan Am/Parapan Am Games ever held."
Since 2001, Atos has served as the Worldwide Information Technology Partner and a TOP sponsor of the Olympic Games, including the Vancouver 2010 Winter Games. In this capacity, Atos is responsible for leading the consortium of IT partners to design, build and operate the massive IT infrastructure and solutions that support the Olympic and Paralympic Games. The company is also the official Worldwide Paralympic IT Partner of the International Paralympic Committee and an official supporter of the Glasgow 2014 Commonwealth Games.
"Congratulations to both Atos and TO2015 for this partnership, which will bring state-of-the-art technology services to these important Games," said Bal Gosal, Minister of State (Sport). "Our Government is pleased to see Atos supporting the 2015 Pan Am/Parapan Am Games, as the private sector has an important role to play in Canadian sport. Becoming a Premier Partner represents corporate Canada's strength, commitment and belief in these Games."
"When it comes to sport, we know that it is all about time. From the years, months and hours our athletes spend training, practicing and perfecting their sport to the final minutes and split seconds that set a personal best or a world record," said Michael Chan, Minister Responsible for the 2015 Pan/Parapan American Games. "With incredible experience, the addition of Atos to our team means the results and scores that will define our Games and our future champions will be in good hands."
"As Canada's sixth largest city, Mississauga is home to more than 54,000 businesses, including more than 60 Fortune 500 companies with Canadian head offices or major divisional head offices," said Mississauga Mayor Hazel McCallion.
"Mississauga businesses are known for their generous support of local initiatives so it is no surprise that a leading-edge company like Atos has offered their technology and their experience to make the Games better for all athletes and spectators," she continued. "As a host community, we have the opportunity to not only showcase our state-of-the-art event venues such as the Hershey Centre and Mississauga Celebration Square but we are also able to spotlight our local businesses that are doing tremendous work right here in Mississauga."
Atos joins previously announced members of the TORONTO 2015 sponsor family, including: Lead Partner CIBC; Premier Partners Chevrolet Canada, CISCO and Loblaw Companies Limited; Opening Ceremony Creative Partner Cirque du Soleil; as well as Official Suppliers Allstream, Beanfield Metroconnect, CAA South Central Ontario, Coca-Cola, Pattison Outdoor Advertising, FUSE Marketing Group, McKesson Canada, Royal Canadian Mint, Schenker of Canada Ltd., Toronto Pearson International Airport, the Toronto Star, and Official Broadcaster CBC/Radio-Canada.
