AJAX, ON, Feb. 14, 2013 /CNW/ - For 2013 the Audi lineup will grow with a number of new additions to the portfolio. Few models will have more presence than the new 2014 SQ5, RS7 and R8 which will make their Canadian debut today at the CIAS.
Audi will also be adding 4 new TDI clean diesel models to the line-up: A6, A7, A8 and Q5. The addition of these four models to the updated Q7 TDI model means we will be offering Canadian consumers a full range of TDI options. Each TDI vehicle delivers up to 30% better fuel economy and 30% lower carbon dioxide emissions than gasoline engines. All will be powered by our 3.0l TDI with 240hp and 407lbsft of torque. We will start delivery of the A8 TDI this spring and the other models will arrive in dealerships late summer.
SQ5
Powered by a 3.0l TFSI supercharged V6, the new SQ5 embodies "Vorsprung durch technik": Our DNA, Sporty, Sophisticated and Progressive. The engine produces 354hp and 347 lbs-ft of torque resulting in a sprint from zero to 100 km/h that takes just 5.3 seconds - the best in its class. Top speed is electronically limited to 250 km/h. An eight-speed tiptronic and quattro permanent all-wheel drive with torque vectoring transfers the power of the SQ5 firmly to the road. The fast-shifting automatic transmission offers two modes, and the driver can also switch gears manually via the standard shift paddles on the steering wheel.
As you would expect with an S model from Audi, the suspension is set firm for direct feedback and sporty handling. 20-inch wheels are standard and we offer 21 inch wheels as an option. Of course the SQ5 has all the visual cues of an S model: SQ5 badge on the brake calipers, platinum grey radiator grill, distinctive bumper design, roof spoiler and four exhaust pipes that demonstrate the sportiness of this model.
The SQ5 comes standard with electromechanical steering and optional with Audi drive select that allows the driver to switch between several driving modes. The new Audi SQ5 will be in dealerships this Fall.
RS7
The RS7 is designed and engineered by quattro GmbH. The heart of this car is a twin turbo V8 4.0l TFSI engine that produces 560hp and 516 lbs-ft of torque. The exciting characteristic of this engine is that the maximum torque is available from 1750 rpm up to 5500rpm. The result: 0-100km/h in just 3.9 seconds.
Yet the new RS7 consumes on average just 9.8 liters of fuel per 100 km. The most innovative efficiency technology in the new Audi RS 7 Sportback is the cylinder on demand (COD) system. At low to medium loads and engine speeds, it deactivates cylinders 2, 3, 5 and 8 by closing their valves via electromechanical actuators. The 4.0 TFSI then runs as a four-cylinder engine until the driver accelerates more strongly again.
Of course, the quattro all-wheel drive system comes standard in the RS7 with sport differential. This not only allows the distribution of torque from the front to the rear axle, but also from left to right on the rear axle. Combined with the dynamic steering that varies the steering ratio based on the speed travelled this gives the RS7 the best possible handling for a sport sedan. Deliveries will start this Fall.
R8
The Audi R8 is the sportiest offering of the Audi model lineup. Now, this high-performance sports car is more dynamic and faster than ever with the introduction of the new R8 V10 plus - 550hp, almost 400lbs-ft of torque, 0-100km/h in just 3.5 sec. Top speed is reached at 317km/h. That makes this the fastest R8 ever. Weight has been reduced by 60kg with the extensive use of carbon fiber and in combination of the ceramic brakes. These measures decreased the curb weight to 1,570kg. The second big innovation that helps us to get faster is the introduction of the S tronic 7 speed gearbox. The R8 line up comprises two body styles - Coupe and Spyder, and it now comes with three engine options, the V10 plus, the V10 and the V8. However, the V10 plus is only available as a Coupe. With the new model year all models now come with full LED headlights. The S -tronic replaces the R-tronic on all models. And of course all models show the latest design features like the new single frame grill, new tail light design, new exhaust pipes and new bumpers. It will be available in dealerships in April.
