Aurora GO customers now have more parking options
TORONTO, March 2, 2010 /CNW/ - This week, a five-level parking structure opened at Aurora GO Station offering customers 866 new parking spaces, GO Transit announced today. Customers at this station now have access to more than 1,700 parking spots making it easier to leave their cars behind and get on the GO.
"York Region is one of the fastest growing areas in Canada," said Gary McNeil, GO Transit's Managing Director. "Our challenge is to meet their interregional transportation needs, and this new parking structure does just that - encouraging people to park their cars and take GO to their destination. The service is easy, fast, safe and convenient."
The new structure was built with green features, including a 'white roof' to mitigate the heat island effect and reduce the heat reflection on the neighbouring area. The structure also provides provisions for five vehicle re-charging stations for future electric cars.
"Ontario is building better public transit with quick commute times and easy connections to get more people out of their cars and onto transit. Expanding public transit benefits our economy, our communities and our environment," said Kathleen Wynne, Ontario Minister of Transportation.
In addition to four elevators, four stairwells and 15 accessible parking spaces, the structure includes two vehicular entry points - one from Wellington Street East and a second from Industrial Parkway South.
Made available to customers on Monday, March 1, the new parking structure is an example of GO's commitment to expanding parking, sourcing new parking options and supporting structural green initiatives. Expanding service and adding more parking options encourages people to get onto transit, which reduces congestion on the roads and helps the environment. GO Transit continually looks for ways to improve service to better meet customer needs.
GO Transit is the Province of Ontario's interregional public transit system linking Toronto with the surrounding regions of the Greater Toronto Area (GTA). GO carries nearly 55 million passengers a year in an extensive network of train and bus services that spans over 10,000 square kilometres. GO Transit is a division of Metrolinx, an agency of the Province of Ontario. Follow GO on Twitter and Facebook.
