MONTREAL, Oct. 17, 2013 /CNW Telbec/ - Communauto is proud to announce that Auto-mobile, the one-way carsharing component of its offer, will be available this Friday, October 18, in a first sector of the Rosemont-La Petite-Patrie borough and that users can already park their Auto-mobile in residents-only reserved zones on the entire territory of the borough as well as in Côte-des-Neiges-Notre-Dame-de-Grâce (CDN-NDG).
The new service area in Rosemont is bordered by St-Laurent Boulevard to the west, Avenue Christophe-Colomb to the east and Jean-Talon Street to the north (see map). By Friday, it will be possible to start or complete a trip in this area, as it was already the case on the Plateau Mont-Royal.
"This new service area in Rosemont is an important first step because it formalizes our arrival in the borough and underscores our ability to expand our service area quickly. Next stop: CDN-NDG! We expect to commission our next hybrid vehicles over the next few weeks, as they are gradually equipped with the necessary technology. Residents of Rosemont and CDN-NDG will be able to take advantage of these new vehicles soon. Subscription is free, why resist this new mobility option?" asks Mr. Marco Viviani, Director, development and public relations at Communauto.
This first expansion of the Auto-mobile service area will increase the number of destinations available to users. It is also interesting for them to know that they will be able leave their Auto-mobile during stopovers in all residents-only reserved zones of these boroughs, without having to wait for the service to be deployed completely.
Jean-Talon Market get-together
As Jean-Talon Market is one of the new destinations now available with Auto-mobile (whether it's to start or complete a trip), Communauto will be there this Saturday (weather permitting), to meet with residents and explain how easily they too can use their OPUS card to access any Auto-mobile. A few Auto-mobile electric vehicles will also be on-site to allow people to return home with their purchases.
As announced on October 1, Communauto deploys this fall up to 100 hybrid and electric Auto-mobile vehicles on the Plateau-Mont-Royal, Rosemont and CDN-NDG. The offer could reach up to 250 to 350 vehicles at its full potential. Communauto, true to its social, urban and environmental mission plans to deploy the Auto-mobile component of its offer in a way that is the most beneficial for the community and the environment. For this reason, the company asks the City of Montreal to show vision and that she too participate in the definition of this service in the making.
About Auto-mobile
Auto-mobile is the brand name of the one-way carsharing service offered by Communauto. Launched in June 2013 and limited to the Plateau-Mont-Royal borough, this service was first experienced as a pilot, used to document the impacts and benefits of this service. With the expansion of its service area to Rosemont-La Petite-Patrie and Côte-des-Neiges-Notre-Dame-de-Grâce, Auto-mobile is out of its pilot phase and enters a new stage of its development. The service is expected to deploy, at full term, a fleet of 250 to 350 one-way carsharing vehicles, depending on the number of participating boroughs. These vehicles will expand Communauto's already existing fleet of over 1,000 vehicles in the Greater Montreal area.
