AVI-SPL Announces a Breakthrough in Remote Managed Services with the Introduction of Communicator Proxy
TAMPA, Fla., June 10, 2013 /CNW/ - AVI-SPL, the world's leading video communications provider, announced today it has introduced a new capability as part of its award winning VNOC Symphony® platform that eliminates the complexity of remotely managing devices within the customer's protected network. The Communicator Proxy is a revolutionary way to extend the capabilities of Symphony behind a customer firewall. AVI-SPL developed new methods of leveraging existing firewall technology to communicate between the main Symphony cloud application and the Communicator Proxy on the customer's network to perform all of the functions required to remotely manage a meeting room environment without the need for costly dedicated network connections and complex security configurations.

"Every video managed service provider today requires a connection to the customer's network in order to monitor and access video components in the protected network. The challenge is security and reliable bi-directional communication with each device being managed," said John Vitale, vice president of products, AVI-SPL. "The Communicator Proxy ensures the customer is receiving a simple yet secure solution that provides the services they need."
The Communicator Proxy addresses some key functions that were previously performed by the main Symphony platform in the cloud.
Monitoring: The Communicator Proxy provides standards-based polling of all devices within the customer's network and reports the information back to the VNOC Symphony cloud in real-time. Instead of hundreds of devices trying to talk to the cloud through the enterprise firewall, all communication is consolidated to a single entity which then provides the information to the VNOC. This effectively minimizes communication to a single device traversing customer security measures.
Management: Part of VNOC Symphony's powerful toolset is the automated call launching ability and device control. The Communicator Proxy once again provides a secure link from the Symphony cloud to the Communicator Proxy which then sends the information to the hundreds of devices located on the secure network.
Secure Access: Many times the VNOC personnel need to remotely control or access the individual devices within the customer's network. The Communicator Proxy provides a secure, single egress point for the VNOC to access the devices via their integrated remote management capabilities. This dramatically simplifies the network connectivity and security policies between the VNOC and the customer.
The Communicator Proxy combined with AVI-SPL's service architecture provides a new level of capabilities to address the expanding number of devices being remotely managed while minimizing security requirements for remote management.
