Avison Young to hold fifth annual global Day of Giving
Employees in all of the firm's markets
will participate in community activities on October 25
TORONTO, Oct. 23, 2018 /CNW/ - Mark E. Rose, Chair and CEO of Avison Young, the world's fastest-growing commercial real estate services firm, announced today that it will hold its fifth annual global Day of Giving this Thursday, October 25 in all of the company's markets.
"On October 25, employees in Avison Young's 84 offices in Canada, the U.S., Mexico and Europe will again volunteer to assist community organizations that lend a helping hand to people dealing with some of life's most difficult challenges," comments Rose. "This is our small way of trying to make a big difference in the lives of others who need assistance, often due to no fault of their own. As we help initiate change at the grassroots level, we will also be promoting the principles of sustainability through action and partnership."
The 84 offices participating this year represent a 40% increase from 2014, when the firm held its inaugural Day of Giving and employees in 60 offices took part.
Rose continues: "In the past year, we have strived to enhance our employees' overall wellness. We also want to improve the wellness of the communities that enable us to expand our business annually. Therefore, we continue to recruit top real estate professionals and other service specialists who uphold our core philosophy of putting people before profit. On October 25, we look forward to helping a wide variety of unselfish – and too often unrecognized – community groups as they continue their good work."
Avison Young's global Day of Giving is part of the company's global citizenship strategy. Each Avison Young office has chosen its own community volunteer project in consultation with the charity that will receive the assistance.
"Given today's significant and growing imbalances within society, it is important that we recognize how fortunate we are in our own lives and working environments," says Avison Young Principal Miles Marten, who is based in the firm's London West End office. "The Day of Giving provides a co-ordinated opportunity to make a real difference to those who may be less fortunate than ourselves. The opportunity to put something back into our local communities is incumbent on us all. I really hope our actions can make a real difference to those individuals and organizations that we are supporting on October 25 – and inspire us all to make an even greater difference in the future."
Each October, Avison Young's global Day of Giving is held in all of the firm's markets. The global Day of Giving's philanthropic effort expands annually as Avison Young opens new offices.
"Supporting our communities is one of the five central pillars of Avison Young's global citizenship program – and our corporate values," says Amy Erixon, Avison Young Principal and Managing Director of Investment Management, who is based in the company's global headquarters in Toronto. "The annual Day of Giving provides a combined corporate and individual opportunity to walk the talk through volunteer outreach to essential charities in each of the communities in which we do business. This annual endeavour is a team-building activity as well. Both new and long-term staff find often unexpected opportunities to enhance our ties with each other and our communities. Our commitment to citizenship also strengthens recruitment, and employee and client retention."
Local staff activities on October 25 will range from packing food at food banks; to painting, cleaning and landscaping at animal and youth shelters; to making crafts with senior citizens.
"I'm proud to be part of a work family that values its clients, its people and the communities in which it operates on a global basis," notes Avison Young Principal and Chief Financial Officer Christine Battist, who is based in the company's Chicago office. "We are a different company with a passion for our people and our communities. Our global Day of Giving connects these two passions and promotes awareness, collaboration and teamwork. Our goal is to have a sustainable impact on our communities."
