MONTREAL, March 8, 2017 /CNW Telbec/ - Last September, Avon Canada Inc. invited Canadians to upload a selfie and enter the New Face of Avon contest. Participants were offered the chance to win weekly beauty prizes and the opportunity to be featured in an Avon publication. Every time a photo was successfully uploaded to newfaceofavon.ca, the Avon Foundation for Women (Canada) committed to donate $1 to a Breast Cancer charity of the contestant's choice from a list of sixteen registered Organizations.
In addition, for every new Independent Sales Representative who joined Avon Canada from September 20 to December 15, 2016 the Avon Foundation for Women (Canada) also pledged to direct a $20 donation to the Breast Cancer charity of the new Representative's choice from the list of sixteen registered Organizations.
"This International Women's Day, we wanted to continue Avon's 130 year heritage of empowerment and giving back," said Goran Petrovic, President of Avon Canada. "By supporting a critical cause, like Breast Cancer, which impacts one in nine Canadian women throughout the course of their lifetime, we are making a marked difference in the fight against this disease."
As the company for women, Avon's commitment to giving back to causes that are important to women and their families is a founding principle of the brand. These actions are further demonstrated through the generosity and engagement of Avon's network of Independent Sales Representatives and their loyal customers.
"It's been a fabulous few months," said Roberta Lacey, Head of Marketing at Avon Canada. "Entries to the New Face of Avon contest poured in with close to 7,000 Canadians uploading photos, many registering to become new Representatives and selecting charities which they would like to see supported by Avon.
Now that the contest has come to a close, Avon Canada is pleased to announce that ten winners have been chosen as the proud New Faces of Avon, soon to be featured in Avon's bi-weekly brochure – with a distribution of 1 million copies. Not only will the winners see their face in Avon's brochure, they will also reveal the amount donated to their Breast Cancer charity of choice.
In total, over $100,000 will go to support sixteen different Canadian charities, including the Canadian Cancer Society, Rethink Breast Cancer, VOBOC, Jewish General Hospital, Fondation Jean-Marc Paquette, Action Revivre, Breast Cancer Action Nova Scotia, Dr. H. Bliss Murphy Cancer Care Foundation, Fondation Virage, London Health Sciences, Markham Stouffville Hospital Foundation, The Angel Fund, The Ottawa Hospital Foundation, Wings of Hope Breast Cancer Foundation, Women's College Hospital Foundation and the Canadian Breast Cancer Foundation.
"A picture is worth a thousand words," said Lacey. "And thanks to every Canadian who participated in the New Face of Avon initiative, the simple act of uploading a photo will make a world of difference for Canadian women facing Breast Cancer."
