AVRSB STUDENT TO RECEIVE LIEUTENANT GOVERNOR AWARD: READY TO WRITE! PRÊT À

HALIFAX, Sept. 8 /CNW/ - Grade Ten student Lindsay Burns will be honoured at Government House this September as the 2010 recipient of the Lieutenant Governor's Award: Ready to Write! Prêt à écrire! Miss Burns is a Late French Immersion student at West Kings District High School in Auburn, Nova Scotia. West Kings District High School is located within the Annapolis Valley Regional School Board.
French second language students from grades 10-12 from across the province entered written submissions and Miss Burns' was chosen based on originality, creativity, writing style, organization of ideas, content and written language proficiency.
The theme chosen by her Honour for 2010 was for students to examine the Vice Regal roles as representatives of the Queen as Head of State. Miss Burns's entry focused on the functioning of the Canadian government and the importance of the Lieutenant Governors and the Governor General within our parliamentary system.
"The importance of researching, writing and engaging in open dialog around how our parliamentary system works is not only educational, it encourages young people to deepen their knowledge of the mechanics of the Canadian government," Lieutenant Governor Mayann Francis says. "This is essential to the sustainability and health of our democracy."
The Lieutenant Governor's Award: Ready to Write! Prêt à écrire! is a partnership with Canadian Parents for French - Nova Scotia and is sponsored by Université Sainte-Anne. Université Sainte-Anne has a longstanding relationship with Canadian Parents for French and a history of supporting French education initiatives in Nova Scotia.
