TORONTO, June 7, 2016 /CNW/ - Spring often inspires the sudden need to revitalize your home. Most Canadians start with the commonly used spaces in their homes – and often the most daunting. Changing the look of your bathroom or kitchen doesn't require a contractor or any major renovations. Small upgrades that don't require much time or money can have a bigger impact than an overhaul demo-reno.
Replacing your faucet is an easy and quick way to revamp the most essential spaces in your home – giving the kitchen or bathroom a quick facelift that lasts.
To help Canadians get more from their homes, Delta Faucet Canada worked with interior design expert and TV host Janette Ewen for tips on home rejuvenation this spring:
Back to Black
"Black kitchens are a notable trend for 2016," says Ewen. "From black stainless appliances to backsplashes and faucets, black adds an effortless and chic look." Consider adding a black tile backsplash to your existing space, paired with the Delta Trinsic Single Handle Pull-Down Kitchen Faucet in Matte Black to complete the look.
Here We Grow!
The popularity of the kitchen gardens is on the rise as people reconnect with their indoor green thumbs. "From sprouting microgreens to maintaining small pots of herbs, setting up a small grow area will add a splash of colour and life to your space," says Ewen. "Talk about a trend that urban dwellers are really digging."
It's All About the Flow
How do people move through your kitchen? When it comes to redesigns, trendsetters like to identify a family's needs and flow before establishing a layout— are they typically moving in a triangle pattern between appliances and the sink? If so, avoid arranging your kitchen in a linear pattern as it limits the number of people who can access the space at once.
Plywood, Please!
"When it comes to cabinetry, this unexpected trend is giving kitchens a modern-rustic feel," says Ewen. "A plywood look offers a minimalist vibe to your space and works best when paired with simple materials." Clean white counter tops and understated fixtures like the Leland Single Handle Pull-Down Bar/Prep Faucet in Venetian Bronze are the perfect contemporary partner for plywood touches.
Setting the Bar High
Influenced by shows like Mad Men, homeowners are installing built-in bars or adding bar carts at a furious pace. "To incorporate this look, shop for vintage bar accessories and consider a mid-century modern-style look," says Ewen. "Teak works well for the kind of vibe that would make Don Draper smile."
Mix, Match and Marvelous
Eclectic style is becoming increasingly popular in 2016. For the kitchen, this look can include everything from mismatched kitchen chairs to an array of different table settings. In the bathroom, towels of various colours and patterns do the trick along with some well-placed, unusual accessory choices.
Tile Style
Whether destined for the kitchen or bathroom, ornate tiles are making news. From graphic to Spanish-inspired designs, this trend is all about giving your space a signature look. Pick a pattern you love and make it the base of your design—chevron looks great in a classic setting, Moroccan in an eclectic one, and circular in a mid-century modern room.
Powder Room Personality
"The powder room is a great place to experiment with design and add a whimsical, personal touch," says Ewen. "This year, homeowners are creating a statement bathroom by using ornate wallpapers and wrap-around tiles. And while this bold look isn't for the faint of heart, it definitely creates a signature style." The powder room is also a great place for a statement piece such as the Delta Cassidy Two-Handle Widespread Lavatory Low-arc Spout Cross in Brilliance Polished Nickel.
Top Brass
In home décor, brass is quickly becoming the metallic of choice for trendsetting designers and decorators—it perfectly complements classic bathroom styling and looks chic when paired with navy, black or wood. Try incorporating this look along with minimal accessories to avoid making the space appear overdone.
Walk in to Luxury
Bigger is quickly becoming better for today's shower spaces. Inspired by hotel designs, homeowners are discovering the sheer luxury of a glass walk-in shower for an ultra-chic and modern look. When installing, be sure to incorporate features such as the Delta Surface Mount Body Spray in champagne bronze—it allows for 30-degree up-and-down adjustment, and will accent any design.
