Awards Highlight Unique Contributions to Fire Safety
TORONTO, June 26, 2012 /CNW/ - Eighteen Fire Safety Awards were handed out to recipients today by the Fire Marshal's Public Fire Safety Council. It was part of an annual awards ceremony to recognize people and organizations in Ontario communities who have helped combat needless fires, injuries and deaths.
"Everyone can make a contribution to fire safety. The Fire Safety Awards highlight and showcase these unique contributions, particularly those that have prevented tragic fires, injuries and deaths," said Ted Wieclawek, Ontario Fire Marshal and Chair, Fire Marshal's Public Fire Safety Council. "Ontario is a much safer place to live, thanks to the efforts of the Fire Safety Award recipients."
The diverse group of award winners included students, educators, businesses, service clubs and media outlets that made significant contributions to fire safety and injury prevention in their communities. Among the award recipients were five young people whose quick actions helped to avert potentially life-threatening situations. The names of the recipients are:
