Azim Rizvee forced to withdraw in favor of Justin Trudeau's preferred candidate Adam van Koeverden
MILTON, ON, Jan. 19, 2019 /CNW/ - Azim Rizvee, the 2015 Trudeau Liberal candidate has confirmed that he was forced by the Liberal Party of Canada's leadership to withdraw from the Liberal nomination contest in Milton, scheduled for January 20, 2019.
"Prime Minister Justin Trudeau, personally told me and my wife very aggressively that Adam van Koeverden is his preferred candidate for the Milton riding: "I am little worried for you guys but I will keep pushing Adam van Koeverden, He is a good man and we need him in Ottawa." We felt threatened, harassed and bullied, said Rizvee.
The Liberal Party leadership did not allow me to contest the nomination so that Prime Minister's preferred candidate, Adam van Koeverden can be nominated."
Azim Rizvee, lost to veteran Conservative MP Lisa Raitt, by less than 2300 votes in October 2015 general elections. In 2011, Ms. Raitt won the old Halton riding by more than 24000 votes.
Azim says that he was interviewed by the Liberal Party's Greenlight Committee Panelist as part of the Liberal candidate nomination process. According to Azim, the panelist recommended him to be allowed to contest, a process called 'green lighting'. Azim says that even after this recommendation by the panelist, he was not given the green light to be a candidate, as the Prime Minister wanted Mr. Adam van Koeverden to be the Liberal candidate in Milton.
"This is an attack on Canadian democracy, an attack on the aspirations of people of Milton and an attack on the Liberal values, said Azim Rizvee.
