LONGUEUIL, QC, Sept. 14 /CNW Telbec/ - Azimut Exploration Inc. ("Azimut") reports that Goldcorp Canada Ltd ("Goldcorp") completed an 8-hole diamond drilling campaign totalling 2,008 metres on two (2) gold targets on the Wabamisk property. A key result was the discovery of a gold-antimony-arsenic mineralized zone associated with a diorite intrusion and metasedimentary rocks. The best intercept returned 2.27 g/t Au over 4.3 m (core length) within a large envelope of 0.7 g/t Au, 0.39% Sb and 0.20% As over 19 m.
Antimony (Sb) and arsenic (As) are classic pathfinders for gold. The widths and extents of the Sb-As anomaly identified during this program indicate the possibility of significant gold mineralization in the vicinity, ranking this target as a top exploration priority.
Results from this drilling phase include:
- 2.27 g/t Au over 4.3 m (from 34.5 to 38.8 m) within an envelope of 0.7 g/t Au, 0.39% Sb and 0.20% As over 19 m (from 29.5 to 48.5 m) in hole W-10-01
- 2.24 g/t Au over 1.0 m (from 100.5 to 101.5 m) within an envelope of 0.68% Sb and 0.44% As over 9 m (from 105.5 to 114.5 m) in hole W-10-03
- 1.47 g/t Au over 1.0 m (from 47.0 to 48.0 m) within an envelope of 0.2 g/t Au, 0.34% Sb and 0.30% As over 11.15 m (from 44.85 to 56.00 m) in hole W-10-04
- 1.28 g/t Au over 3.4 m (from 197.7 to 201.1 m), 1.12 g/t Au over 4.45 m (from 211.05 to 215.50 m) within an envelope of 0.5 g/t Au and 0.24% As over 17.8 m (from 197.7 to 215.5 m) in hole W-10-05
- 0.217 g/t Au over 7.2 m (from 76.1 to 83.3 m) in hole W-10-07
Six holes totalling 1,504 m tested the GH prospect. Four of these holes (W-10-01 to W-10-04) delineated a 600-metre-long altered and mineralized diorite porphyry, which remains totally open along strike and at depth. Mineralization is related to Sb and As sulphides as disseminations and veinlets accompanied by sericitic and silica alteration. A second mineralized trend, cut in hole W-10-05 located 300 m south of the diorite, is entirely hosted in metasedimentary rocks with arsenopyrite and pyrrhotite as disseminations and veinlets. The GH prospect is located within a strong 3.5-km-long Sb and As soil anomaly that correlates well with an IP geophysical anomaly (see press release of March 17, 2010).
Two holes (W-10-07 and W-10-08), totalling 504 m, tested the Brenda prospect. A mineralized intercept in hole W-10-07 corresponds to a foliated andesite and a quartz vein with disseminated arsenopyrite.
Rock samples were assayed by ALS Chemex of Val d'Or, Quebec, using an ICP method. Following this drilling phase, Goldcorp performed an additional $370,000 prospecting and trenching program. The results will be reported when they will become available.
