OAK PARK, MI, Nov. 17 /CNW/ - Azure Dynamics Corporation's (TSX: AZD)(OTC:AZDDF), a world leader in the development and production of hybrid electric and electric components and powertrain systems for commercial vehicles, today announced that it has received orders for 10 new Balance™ Hybrid Electric shuttle buses.
Azure markets its innovative, efficient and green technology to fleet operators via a distinctive channel distribution strategy, which entails partnering with premier body builders and their dealers and Ford commercial truck dealerships across North America. Those relationships have resulted in sales as follows:
Five Balance™ Hybrid Electric shuttle buses were ordered in conjunction with Azure's existing contract established through CALSTART's Hybrid Truck User's Forum (HTUF) and its Small Bus Users Group. The vehicles included in this contract are 23-foot, gasoline-powered hybrid electric cutaway buses using Azure's Balance™ Hybrid Electric powertrain on the Ford E450 chassis. The StarTrans Senator Bus body has a passenger capacity of up to 14 riders, including two wheelchair positions. The buses meet the FTA "Altoona" durability testing protocols for seven years / 200,000 miles service life and are American with Disability Act (ADA) compliant.
- Three of the units will be used by the Sacramento Regional Transit District (RT), which operates approximately 91 bus routes covering a 418 square-mile service area.
- One unit will be used by TriMet in Portland, OR, where there are approximately 196,900 weekday bus trips taken every month.
- One unit was ordered by Utah Transit Authority in Salt Lake City which covers over 1,400 square miles and services passengers in six counties.
"Azure is pleased to earn the additional CALSTART Small Bus contract sales," said Tom Lincoln, Azure's national sales manager. "The consolidated vehicle bid included various specifications and performance attributes to meet the demands for a wide range of potential fleet customers. The fact that Azure Dynamics Balance™; Hybrid Electric technology was able to meet these diverse considerations and be awarded the sales validates our product's flexibility and its performance, cost and environmental benchmarks."
Other sales include:

The first of the two buses will be deployed in Miramar, FL in the Miramar Community Bus Service.
